The Classic memory foam mattress is Nectar’s flagship model, as well as its most popular and affordable bed. It’s very supportive, with a thick layer of high-density memory foam that helps relieve pressure. To help you find out if the Nectar is right for your specific needs, I tested this bed for factors such as firmness, pressure relief, motion transfer, and edge support. By the end of this Nectar mattress review, you should know if it’s the bed of your dreams.

Sleepopolis has been testing mattresses for more than 10 years, and my team and I have gone through extensive training to ensure we can provide accurate recommendations using our rigorous methodology. Our expert testers and certified sleep science coaches have tested more than 330 beds in our studio, so we know a thing or two about the best mattresses.

We also work closely with a network of medical professionals when developing our methodology. Our chief medical advisor Dr. Raj Dasgupta, MD, FACP, FCCP, FAASM, and our director of sleep health, Dr. Shelby Harris, were especially crucial to ensuring accuracy and non-bias throughout our testing process.

The Nectar is that rare foam mattress that’s supportive enough for stomach sleepers, and should keep their hips aligned with their shoulders.
Pros of the Nectar
The Nectar offers a balanced feel, with contouring and support in equal measure.
Back sleepers should feel supported, but pleasantly cushioned on the Nectar.
Couples shouldn’t be too disturbed by movement, as the Nectar isolates motion well.
Cons of the Nectar
The Nectar isn’t supportive enough to be one of the best mattresses for heavy sleepers, which accommodate folks weighing 250 pounds or more. While heavy side sleepers might be comfortable, heavy back sleepers with chronic pain will need something softer and heavy stomach sleepers will probably need something firmer.

The Nectar delivers a balance of comfort and support: it’s definitely contouring, but still provides a firm enough foundation for most light to average weight sleepers, especially if they sleep on their back or stomach. Plus, a lengthy trial period, lifetime warranty, and affordable price make the Nectar a reassuring choice for many. Watch our video review to learn more.

What our tester says:

“I think back sleepers would be especially happy on this bed. They’ll get plenty of support from the firm memory foam in the Nectar Classic, which should translate to great pressure relief and a good night’s sleep. Hot sleepers who have to have a memory foam mattress should also have no trouble at all falling asleep on this bed.” – Nichole Mondshein, lead reviewer and staff writer

Nectar Classic Mattress Overview

The Nectar Classic is an all-foam bed-in-a-box that offers the exceptional pressure relief and motion isolation that memory foam mattresses are known for. The Nectar performed well in pressure relief, cooling, and motion isolation during testing, scoring a 4 out of 5 or higher in each category. I think this mattress is an excellent fit for hot sleepers and folks with partners who are easily disturbed, as well as back sleepers.

However, like many other all-foam beds, the Nectar received less-than-stellar scores for responsiveness and edge support. During testing, I found it challenging to change between different sleeping positions without feeling “stuck” in the bed’s soft layers due to its classic, slow-moving memory foam feel. I also didn’t feel the most secure while lying and sitting down on the edge of the mattress. Based on my experience, I wouldn’t recommend the Nectar Classic to combination sleepers who frequently change positions or folks with limited mobility.

Nectar Classic Value

When referring to a mattress’s value, we look at whether the quality of the materials and the bed’s performance match its price point. The Nectar Classic is a relatively affordable mattress, coming in at $1,664 for a queen size before discounts. It also frequently goes on sale for under $700, which is a steal considering the Nectar Classic is a fiberglass-free mattress with CertiPUR-US certifications and additional cooling features for added comfort.

What is the Nectar Mattress Made Of?

The latest iteration of the Nectar Classic is a fiberglass-free bed-in-a-box that ships compressed in a package to your doorstep. Because of this, you might notice an off-gassing period upon first opening it. This process should finish in one to three days after you unbox it.

In our experience, the Nectar Classic almost completely inflated within a couple of hours of unboxing it. By the end of the first 24 hours, it was at its full height and ready for us to test.

The Nectar is a memory foam bed that has a 12-inch profile. It’s made with CertiPUR-US- certified foam, so it’s free from harmful chemicals, heavy metals, and ozone depleters. Learn more about each of its layers below.

Cover
The Nectar mattress has a cooling cover made from a quilted polyester/nylon blend. It features heat-wicking technology and a soft, breathable feel.
Comfort Layer
The top layer of the Nectar is made of two inches of gel memory foam. This foam is more cooling than traditional memory foam but still has a very contouring feel.
Transition Layer
Next up is a 3-inch layer of what Nectar calls Dynamically Adjusting Foam. This foam adds bounce and helps prevent the sleeper from sinking all the way through the memory foam to the firm base layer.
Base Layer
Lastly is a base support layer made of seven inches of high-density foam. This layer provides the mattress with some nice support and helps keep the sleeper from sinking too far into the bed.

Nectar Classic Mattress Firmness

When I talk about how a bed feels, I like to start with firmness because it’s likely to give you a better idea of how you’ll experience the mattress. Firmness is subjective, and how you experience a mattress will depend on numerous factors, including body weight, your preferred sleeping position, and other needs. To get a better general idea of how firm the Nectar is, I tested it with one of my fellow mattress testers, and we settled on a firmness level rating together.

Firmness 6.5
The Nectar Classic is a 6.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale or medium-firm.

After testing the Nectar Classic in every sleeping position, my colleague Livvi DiCicco and I gave the Nectar a 6.5 out of 10 on our mattress firmness scale, putting it right at the industry standard of medium firm. This bed is a little firmer than most memory foam mattresses, so don’t expect a super plush, contouring experience with the Nectar Classic. You will likely feel more “on top” of this mattress than “inside” of the foam.

The firmness and support from the memory foam did wonders for my lower back during testing. While I was comfortable on my side, I felt this mattress might be too firm to offer sleepers with sensitive joints and pain the deep body contouring and cushioning they need throughout the night.

Nectar Classic Mattress Performance

I run numerous tests on every mattress I review to help readers get an objective view of what it’s like to sleep on them every night. These tests allow me to make even more specific recommendations in addition to sleeping position and body type. Below, see how the Nectar performs in areas such as pressure relief, motion isolation, cooling, and more.

Nectar Classic Pressure Relief Performance

We test pressure relief using a specialized mat that we roll onto the surface of the mattress and then lie on in the side- and back-sleeping positions. This mat uses thermal technology to sense where pressure is building along the body. The results are translated into an easy-to-read graphic that displays areas of low pressure as blue and green, and areas of pressure buildup as yellow and red.

We went into our pressure relief test with high expectations of the Nectar Classic because experts, including Dr. Dasgupta, often say that memory foam mattresses like the Nectar Classic are particularly effective and important for support and pressure relief. “Those with lower back pain and neck pain specifically could benefit from a memory foam mattress,” he says.

Sleepers in all three weight categories typically experience pressure relief differently. For example, what might feel soft to a heavyweight sleeper will likely feel a lot firmer to a lightweight sleeper. To give you a better understanding of how the bed might feel for you, we invited a lightweight tester, an average-weight tester, and a heavyweight tester into the studio to test pressure relief on the Nectar Classic. When we combined our overall pressure relief scores for back and side sleeping, we found an average score of 4 out of 5.

A pressure map graphic for our lightweight sleeper on the Nectar (back-sleeping position). The graphic is entirely blue, indicating no pressure.
Our pressure map results for our lightweight tester in the back-sleeping position.

Our lightweight tester, Asha Birjah, felt the most comfortable on her back. She said, “I don’t feel a gap around my lower lumbar spine, so my lower back feels supported. Everything feels aligned.” Her average PSI was 9.27, while the overall average PSI for back sleeping is 15.1. In other words, this bed should relieve a great deal of pressure for lightweight back sleepers.

However, Asha did not feel as comfortable lying on her side on this mattress. She noticed more discomfort around her shoulders and hips in this position. She said, “My hips feel lower than my spine, I feel pressure on my shoulder even with a pillow. I noticed more pressure in my hips.” For reference, lightweight side sleepers typically feel the most pressure buildup in their hips and shoulders.

A pressure map graphic for our average-weight sleeper on the Nectar (side-sleeping position). The graphic is mostly blue, with a little bit of yellow at the knees, indicating some moderate pressure buildup there.
Our pressure map results for our average-weight tester in the side-sleeping position.

Our average-weight tester, Sosha Lewis, had a similar experience on her back, but enjoyed side sleeping more than Asha. While lying on her side, she said, “I think this bed is pretty good for side sleeping. It’s firm for a foam bed, but I sink into it further the longer I lie here. My hips are elevated and in line with my shoulders, creating fantastic spinal alignment.” However, her PSI was 16.94, which is a bit higher than the side-sleeping average of 12.6. While the Nectar could work for average-weight side sleepers, I wouldn’t recommend it to folks who sleep strictly on their side.

A pressure map graphic for our heavyweight sleeper on the Nectar (back-sleeping position). The graphic is entirely blue, indicating no pressure.

Our heavyweight tester, Caine Wilkes, had a much different experience on the Nectar Classic. While lying on his side, he said, “It feels more supportive than I was expecting. Everything feels in line on my side. While I feel a little pressure on my shoulder, it isn’t uncomfortable.” Meanwhile, he noted feeling more pressure when he lay on his back. Interestingly, his PSI in both sleeping positions was below the average, at 8.45 for side sleeping and 5.95 for back sleeping.

Nectar Classic Motion Isolation

Motion isolation is an important factor, especially if you sleep with a restless partner or pet. A bed with good motion isolation can absorb movement at the source and prevent the sleeper on the other side of the bed from feeling it. We tested for motion isolation on the Nectar Classic using two tests — a ripple test and a partner test.

A bed’s motion isolation can also be a key sign of its overall quality, says Dr. Dasgupta. “A mattress with good motion isolation offers undisturbed sleep, comfort for couples, personalized support, pressure relief, versatility, a quiet sleep environment, longevity and minimized partner disturbance,” he adds. “It indicates material quality, construction and overall comfort.”

Ripple test: For the ripple test, I placed a tub full of water on one side of the bed and then moved around on the other side. After jumping into bed and switching between positions, the water in the container barely budged, earning the Nectar Classic a perfect score of 5 out of 5 on this test.

A man lying on the Nectar mattress while wearing a blindfold. He's giving a thumbs-up to indicate whenever he can feel his partner moving on the bed.
An example of one of our motion transfer tests on the Nectar mattress.

Motion transfer test: Next, I recruited my colleague Livvi to do a partner test with me. I put on a blindfold and lay on the mattress, while she got in and out of bed and switched positions next to me. I raised my hand every time I could feel her moving. I could feel Livvi jump into bed but had trouble figuring out if she was switching positions or not, which is great. I only felt her get in and out of bed really, which led me to give the bed a 4.7 out of 5 for motion isolation.

Nectar Classic Responsiveness

Responsiveness measures how quickly a mattress bounces back to its original shape after you’ve applied pressure to it. Innerspring mattresses typically snap back right away, while memory foam mattresses slowly return to their original form. Responsiveness is important for combination sleepers or those who frequently change positions at night, as it aids mobility when you’re moving around or switching positions.

After performing the following tests on the Nectar, I gave it a 3.5 out of 5 in this category, meaning it’s just slightly above average. In other words, I think this is a good mattress for most people who need to adjust themselves once or twice while sleeping, but I wouldn’t recommend it to folks who toss and turn frequently to get comfortable — or who simply prefer a bouncy-feeling bed.

Switch test: The switch test is self-explanatory. My colleagues and I lie on the mattress and observe how difficult or easy it is to switch between positions. I found it surprisingly easy to switch between different positions for an all-foam bed. I think it’s easier to switch positions on the Nectar because it’s not a very tall bed, and it is firm for a 100-percent memory foam mattress. When you press down into its surface with your hands, they don’t sink too far into the layers, which suggests it’s easy to flip over from your back to your side to your stomach.

Responsiveness test: Our next test measures how responsive a mattress is by recording how long it takes for the mattress to bounce back after putting weight on it. My fellow mattress testers and I begin by placing a 53-pound kettlebell on the mattress for seven seconds to allow it to fully sink in. Next, we pull the weight straight up and record how long it takes for the mattress to come back to its original shape. It took 1.5 seconds for the Nectar Classic to fully bounce back, which is slower than most hybrid and innerspring mattresses I’ve tested, but about average for a memory foam bed. I gave the Nectar a 3 out of 5 on this test.

Sinkage test: For this test, we place the kettlebell on the bed again and use a ruler to measure how many inches it sinks in. We measured 3.72 inches of sinkage on the Nectar Classic, which is a bit more than the 3.25-inch average.

Bounce test: Our last responsiveness test shows how bouncy the mattress is. For this test, our mattress testers climb a ladder 6 feet above the mattress and then drop a 25-pound steel ball onto the surface. A yardstick on the wall allows us to see how high the ball bounced. The ball bounced 9 inches on the Nectar Classic, which is lower than the 15.8-inch average.

Nectar Classic Cooling

If you tend to sleep hot, you’re probably looking for a mattress with cooling features and breathable materials to keep you from waking up covered in sweat. Memory foam mattresses typically suffer in this category because they often trap more heat than beds with hybrid or innerspring constructions.

“Memory foam contours for personalized support but may retain heat,” Dr. Dasgupta explains. “However, cooling gel-infused memory foam can help regulate temperature in these models.”

After testing the Nectar Classic using a thermal gun, my colleague and I gave the mattress a 4.5 out of 5 for cooling, which is outstanding for an all-foam bed.

Thermal Gun test: We use a thermal gun to record the mattress’s temperature before lying on it. Next, one of our testers lies on it for five minutes and measures the temperature again. If the temperature increases by less than 5 degrees, we consider it excellent cooling. An increase of 5 to 10 degrees indicates good cooling, 10 to 15 degrees indicates decent cooling, and more than 15 degrees indicates poor cooling.

SO Nectar Classic Memory Foam Thermal Gun
Our tester Kenny Timper using a thermal gun to read the temperature of the Nectar mattress.

When I performed the thermal gun test on the Nectar Classic, I found a temperature increase of 4.5 degrees, indicating excellent cooling abilities (especially for an all-foam model).

Cover test: The cover test involves feeling the surface of the mattress and observing whether it might feel cool to the touch when you first lie down. The Nectar Classic’s cooling cover contains cooling fibers and breathable fabric, and I found it to be quite cool when lying on it.

Feel test: During the thermal gun test, the tester also pays attention to their body’s temperature and whether they can feel the bed getting warmer. In general, I think most of the Nectar beds have excellent cooling. On the Nectar Classic, I could feel that it absorbed some heat after lying on it because it was warmer to the touch. But overall, nothing noticeable changed in my body temperature during the test itself.

Nectar Classic Edge Support

Edge support measures the strength of a mattress’s perimeter. If a bed has strong edge support, you should be able to lie down and sit down on it without it collapsing too much beneath you. This should be an appealing feature for couples, heavier people, or anyone who likes spreading out across the mattress surface. The Nectar earned a 3.5 out of 5 overall in this category, meaning it’s slightly above average when compared to other mattresses.

Tape Measure test: Our tape measure test (or weighted edge support test) involves stacking weights atop each other and placing them directly on the edge of the bed. We perform this test three times with three weight stacks — a 99-pound stack, a 154-pound stack, and a 198-pound stack. We then use a tape measure to measure the sinkage.

This test is meant to simulate how much the edge of the mattress would sink when sleepers in various weight categories sit or lie on the edge. The 99-pound stack represents lightweight sleepers, while the 154-pound and 198-pound stacks represent average-weight and heavyweight sleepers, respectively.

From lightest to heaviest, the sinkage went from 2 to 4 to 4.5 inches.

Seated test: The seated test involves one of our mattress testers sitting on the side of the mattress and standing up several times. During this test, I observed how supported I felt sitting on the Nectar and whether I felt like I might fall off.

A close-up image of someone sitting on the edge of the Nectar mattress to test its edge support.
Sitting down to test the edge support of the Nectar mattress.

I felt the most sinkage while sitting on the edge of the bed. I could definitely feel myself sliding off a bit. While I don’t think it’s an issue for most sleepers, I wouldn’t recommend this to people who need to bear down onto the mattress to stand up. Seniors and folks with limited mobility may find that they have to put in even more effort to get out of the bed. I gave the Nectar a 3 out of 5 on this test.

Full body test: This test is similar to the seated test, except I lie directly on the edge of the bed in different sleeping positions. The Nectar Classic earned a 3.5 out of 5 on this test.

The Nectar Classic felt great while lying on my back and side on the edge of the bed. I never felt like I was sliding off or falling at any point. This is better than the seated test but still not 100 percent perfect. I still felt a bit of sinkage lying on my side on the edge of the bed.

Nectar Classic Mattress Performance for Couples

The Nectar should be a good mattress for couples overall.  It scored well in cooling and motion isolation but average in responsiveness. So, I think most folks should be comfortable, especially those who have a partner who wakes up easily at night.  But if you need a more responsive mattress for sex, then I recommend taking a look at some of our other best mattresses for couples.

Other Performance Factors to Consider

We covered a lot in the above tests, but there are still few things you might want to keep in mind before replacing your old mattress with the Nectar Classic.

Sex

As I mentioned in the couples section above, responsiveness can determine whether a mattress is good for sex. The best mattresses for sex have a decent amount of bounce that helps a couple move and switch positions. Since the Nectar Classic is an all-foam model, I don’t think it’s as bouncy as a hybrid mattress or innerspring model, but compared to most memory foam beds, its firmer feel does make it a bit easier to move around on the surface without getting stuck in its layers.

Noise

When I tested the Nectar Classic, I noticed no noise when rolling around or switching positions. Memory foam mattresses are typically quieter than hybrid beds since they do not have innerspring coils. An all-foam mattress means no chance of creaking or squeaking springs and (usually) less noise.

Base Compatibility

A woman lying on her back on the Nectar mattress while it's on an adjustable base.
Our tester Riley Otis trying out the Nectar with an adjustable base.

While the Nectar Classic is compatible with adjustable bases and was able to bend with the base when we tested it out, we should note that there may be a gap between the bottom of the mattress and the base when it’s in an incline position. This is normal, and the gap shouldn’t affect how your bed feels when you lie on it. The more you use it and the more your weight compresses into the mattress over time, the smaller the gap gets. Also, in our experience, the incline was most effective at the head and foot, sufficiently keeping these sections of our body raised. It was a little less comfortable in the TV/lounge setting, where the top half of the base goes upright.

Durability

We calculate our durability score by finding the average between our support, edge support, materials, and warranty scores. Support and edge support are important durability indicators because strong support systems can prevent premature sagging. High-quality materials also last longer than cheap materials. The mattress warranty provides further insight into how long the company expects the mattress to last.

“Conventional wisdom says you should replace your mattress every 5 to 10 years,” explains Dr. Harris. “Outside of this time frame, if your mattress is uncomfortable, negatively affecting your sleep or is noticeably saggy or damaged in certain areas, it may be time to shop for a replacement.”

With 5-star support, 3.5-star edge support, 4-star materials, and a 5-star limited lifetime warranty, the Nectar Classic has a final durability score of 4.38 stars. Although this mattress is less expensive than many of its competitors, it is not cheaply made. With proper care, I think this mattress will last most people 10 years or more.

Nectar Classic Sleeping Position and Body Weight

Body weight plays a significant role in determining how a mattress will feel. In most cases, mattresses feel firmer to lightweight sleepers than to an average-weight or heavier sleeper. For this reason, our mattress testing team consists of experts in all three weight categories. When making our recommendations based on body weight, we ask testers in each weight category to try the bed in three sleeping positions. This helps us provide specific recommendations to our readers based on their weight and position preferences.

Before we dive into our recommendations, though, we want to recognize that people come in all shapes and sizes, and people of every size deserve a mattress that works for their body type. We use the weight categories light, average, and heavy to more easily categorize sleepers based on how mattresses will perform for their body type, as most mattresses are designed for the group we call “average” (130 to 230 pounds).

As a general takeaway, lighter sleepers don’t require as much support as average-weight sleepers, and mattresses will tend to feel firmer to them. On the other hand, heavy sleepers often need more support than average-weight sleepers and sink into the mattress more. As far as sleeping positions go, side sleepers tend to need a softer mattress while stomach sleepers usually need a firmer, more supportive one. Back sleepers are usually somewhere in the middle.

Is the Nectar Classic a Good Mattress for Light Sleepers (Under 130 pounds)?

  • Light Back Sleepers –  I think the Nectar Classic would work for lightweight back sleepers who prefer a firmer memory foam mattress. These sleepers should get good support and pressure relief around their lower lumbar spine, but they likely wouldn’t get any sinkage.
  • Light Side Sleepers – I wouldn’t recommend the Nectar Classic to light side sleepers, especially those with sensitive joints. These sleepers will want to look for a softer mattress with deep contouring and added cushioning to relieve pressure and pain in those sensitive areas.
  • Light Stomach Sleepers – I think the Nectar Classic is a good fit for lightweight stomach sleepers. Stomach sleepers in this category need something firmer to keep their spines supported and aligned at night, and since they likely won’t sink into this mattress at all, the Nectar Classic is a solid choice for lightweight sleepers looking for a firm, all-foam bed.
A man side sleeping on the Nectar mattress.

Is the Nectar Classic a Good Mattress for Average-Weight Sleepers (130–230 pounds)?

  • Average-Weight Back Sleepers – Average-weight back sleepers should consider the Nectar Classic, especially if they have back pain. I felt very supported by this mattress and got some good pressure relief around my lower back while testing this mattress.
  • Average-Weight Side Sleepers – While the Nectar Classic should work for most average-weight side sleepers, I wouldn’t recommend it to folks in this category with joint pain. Sleepers with joint pain will need something softer that offers extra cushioning around their pressure points.
  • Average-Weight Stomach Sleepers – I think the Nectar Classic is an excellent choice for average-weight stomach sleepers. As someone who falls into this category, I felt lifted and supported while testing this mattress. I found that the cover and comfort layers did a great job of keeping my spine in a neutral position, and I didn’t feel like any part of me sank into the mattress too much, which made it easy for me to get in and out of bed.
A man back sleeping on the Nectar mattress.
Our tester Kenny Timper back sleeping on the Nectar.

Is the Nectar Classic a Good Mattress for Heavy Sleepers (over 230 pounds)?

  • Heavy Back Sleepers – I think this mattress could work for some heavier back sleepers. These sleepers will experience more sinkage than lightweight and average-weight sleepers, but not too much more. However, heavier sleepers with chronic pain might want to look into a mattress with more cushioning and support for their lower backs.
  • Heavy Side Sleepers – The Nectar Classic could be a good fit for heavier side sleepers with sensitive joints. Since these sleepers will sink into the memory foam more, they will get more contouring and cushioning from this mattress than average or lightweight sleepers, which should ease some pressure and pain.
  • Heavy Stomach Sleepers – I do not think heavy stomach sleepers will get enough support from the Nectar Classic to keep their spines in a healthy position. These sleepers might experience more sinkage around their hips, which could lead to back pain over time.

My Final Thoughts About the Nectar Classic Mattress

Before you decide to purchase or pass on the Nectar Classic, I want to recap what I loved and what I didn’t love about this mattress. Not every mattress works for every sleeper, so even if the Nectar isn’t for you, there are many other great options on the market that should suit your individual sleep needs.

Who I Recommend the Nectar Classic For

  • I think back sleepers are going to love the Nectar Classic. These sleepers will get plenty of support from the firm memory foam in the Nectar Classic, which should translate to great pressure relief and a good night’s sleep.
  • Similarly, lightweight and average-weight stomach sleepers should find that they get enough support around their hips to sleep comfortably on this mattress. The Nectar Classic is firm enough to keep these sleepers’ spines in a healthy position.
  • Hot sleepers who have to have a memory foam mattress should have no trouble at all falling asleep on this bed. The Nectar Classic sleeps surprisingly cool for an all-foam bed, and its cool-to-the-touch cover should help disperse more heat.

Who I Don’t Recommend the Nectar Classic For

  • I also don’t think the Nectar Classic is the best option for lightweight side sleepers or people with sensitive joints. Lightweight side sleepers will likely find this bed lacks the deep contouring they need to alleviate pain around their shoulders and hips.
  • I wouldn’t recommend the Nectar Classic to combination sleepers who toss and turn a lot in their sleep. These sleepers may find it challenging to change positions on this mattress.
  • While the Nectar Classic’s edge support isn’t the worst, I still wouldn’t recommend this mattress to folks with limited mobility. The perimeter isn’t sturdy enough to bear down on when getting out of bed.

Nectar Classic Vs Competitors

Still wondering if the Nectar is the right mattress for you? Below I’ll compare it to some of its competitors from other popular online mattress companies.

Nectar vs DreamCloud Original

Unlike the Nectar, the DreamCloud Original is a hybrid mattress that contains both layers of memory foam and supportive coils. It also has several luxurious touches such as a cashmere-blend cooling cover, and is a bit firmer overall.

  • Price: As a luxury mattress, the DreamCloud is more expensive than the Nectar.
  • Sleeping position: Back sleepers should be comfortable on both mattresses, although they should consider how firm they prefer their bed. Stomach sleepers will find more support on the Nectar Classic. Neither mattress is the best for side sleepers with sensitive joints.
  • Cooling: Both of these mattresses are good options here. The Nectar sleeps cool because of its breathable cooling cover and gel memory foam, and the DreamCloud regulates temperature well due to its airflow-promoting coils.
  • Body weight: Heavy back sleepers over 230 pounds may get the support they need on the DreamCloud, but neither mattress is ideal for larger body types.

I have purchased 5 different Dreamcloud mattresses over the years and never once disappointed. Always fast shipping. Fantastic pricing. But by far the best feature is the quality of the Dreamcloud mattress. Also very impressed with the free bedding (sheets) that came with my recent two purchases. Don’t change what you are doing/offering. It’s perfect in every way.

Nectar vs Helix Midnight

The Midnight is part of Helix’s original line of hybrid mattresses, each of which has a different firmness level. The Helix Midnight is a medium-firm option that comes in at a 6.5 out of 10 on our mattress firmness scale, like the Nectar.

  • Price: While the Helix Midnight’s market price is a bit more expensive than the Nectar, both beds are comparable after promotions and discounts. In fact, the Midnight sometimes runs cheaper than the Nectar.
  • Sleeping position: I think the Midnight’s blend of comfort and support is a good fit for all three sleeping positions, so if you’re a side sleeper, this is the bed for you. Back sleepers and stomach sleepers could be comfortable on either mattress.
  • Cooling: We gave these beds the same cooling score, but the hybrid construction of the Helix Midnight probably wins out over the Nectar. There’s just a lot more room for air to flow through the mattress.
  • Body weight: I don’t think either mattress is the best fit for heavy sleepers. They should check out our best firm mattresses or best mattresses for heavy people instead.

Nectar vs Cocoon Chill

Created by renowned mattress brand Sealy, the Cocoon Chill is an all-foam bed, just like the Nectar. But it’s a bit firmer, coming in at a 7 out of 10 on our mattress firmness scale. It also has some additional cooling technology built into it, such as a cover made of phase change material.

  • Price: These are both very affordable memory foam mattresses from brands that frequently offer discounts and promotions.
  • Sleeping position: Back sleepers should be comfortable on both mattresses. Side sleepers will be better off on the softer foams of the Cocoon Chill. The Nectar Classic is a good match for stomach sleepers, who tend to need more firmness and support.
  • Cooling: Per its name, the Cocoon Chill sleeps, well, cool, especially for a memory foam mattress. Hot sleepers might want to choose this bed over the Nectar, even though they’re both great cooling mattresses.
  • Body weight: I don’t recommend either of these mattresses for heavy sleepers. Foam beds usually aren’t the best option for these folks because they tend to need a lot more support.

I was skeptical ordering a mattress online but so glad I took the risk. It is extremely comfortable yet firm. I have noticed a significant improvement in my temperature regulation overnight. I was waking up 2-3 times before we switched. Definitely recommend!!!

Nectar vs Nolah Signature

Although the Nolah Signature is a foam mattress like the Nectar, it’s unique in that you can get it in a “foam hybrid” model that has some firmer foams meant to give it a feel closer to a hybrid mattress. Either way, the Signature is more of a luxury option, with an organic cotton cover and several proprietary materials.

  • Price: The more luxurious Nolah Signature is significantly more expensive than the Nectar.
  • Sleeping position: We tested out the standard Nolah Signature and found it to be even softer than the Nectar. However, we still got the spinal support we needed, so I think both options are a good fit for side sleepers and back sleepers. The Nectar is a better choice for stomach sleepers.
  • Cooling: The Nolah Signature is constructed with a proprietary material called AirFoam, which is a more breathable alternative to memory foam. This helps it sleep a bit cooler than the Nectar.
  • Body weight: Neither of these beds is firm or supportive enough for heavy sleepers over 230 pounds.

Other Models from Nectar

Nectar makes two other all-foam models with increased cooling capabilities. Take a look below to learn more about them and how they compare to the flagship mattress.

Nectar Original vs Nectar Premier

The Premier and the original Nectar mattress have a similar firmness. However, the Nectar Premier comes with a few more tricks up its sleeve, including more cooling features and more plush, comforting memory foam.

  • Price: The original Nectar is less expensive than the Nectar Premier.
  • Sleeping position: Both beds should suit many side sleepers and back sleepers.
  • Cooling: The Premier sleeps cooler than the original Nectar, thanks to its cool-to-the-touch cover, which could be a perk for hot sleepers.
  • Body weight: Both mattresses best support folks under 230 pounds. Neither is suitable for heavier folks.

After looking for three years and trying three different types of mattresses, we found the one that is just right. Our Nectar mattress is just firm enough yet cozy and comfy too. I no longer wake up with my hips and lower back hurting and my husband’s neck pain is gone. If you’ve been searching for the perfect mattress, this is it!

Nectar Original vs Nectar Luxe

The Nectar Luxe has a medium-firm feel that could appeal to many sleepers, although it has a few more luxurious touches than the original Nectar.

  • Price: The Nectar Luxe is a much more expensive Nectar all-foam mattress.
  • Sleeping position: Back and stomach sleepers will find more support on the Nectar Classic, while side sleepers would fare best on the Luxe.
  • Cooling: The Luxe is designed to be the most cooling mattress in the Nectar all-foam line and should help prevent body heat from trapping.
  • Body weight: The Luxe is able to support heavier back and side sleepers, while the original Nectar is unable to support anyone over 230 pounds.

Our Review Process

At Sleepopolis, our team of Certified Sleep Science Coaches personally test each mattress. We start by unboxing the mattress to figure out how difficult (or easy) it is to get the mattress from the box to the bed. Then, we spend time lying on the bed in different positions, taking time to assess it on our backs, stomachs, and sides. Next, we perform our Sleepopolis tests, using specialized tools to measure qualities like motion transfer, bounce, and pressure relief. Our last step is to open up the mattress and take a look at each layer. These steps allow us to give our final verdict on each mattress.

Nectar Mattress Policies and FAQs

What is the sleep trial period, return policy, and warranty information for the Nectar mattress?

The Nectar ships free and will be delivered to your door compressed in a box. It comes with a 365-night sleep trial period. If you don’t like it, you can return it for free within that full year and get a full refund. If you keep it, you have a lifetime warranty — or a forever warranty, as Nectar likes to call it.

Does the Nectar need a bed frame?

The Nectar needs a flat, supportive surface. The company sells a frame with wooden slats, where no box spring or additional frame is needed.

Does the Nectar need to be flipped?

The Nectar mattress does not need to be flipped. It can be helpful to rotate the mattress 180 degrees once or twice a year to increase its lifespan instead.

What does it mean for the foams in the Nectar mattress to be CertiPUR-US® Certified?

This means the foams meet CertiPUR-US standards for content, emissions, and durability. Nectar’s foams are free of ozone depleters, TCEP flame retardants, mercury, lead, heavy metals, formaldehyde, phthalates. The company says its foams have also shown low VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) emissions for indoor air quality.

What do customers have to say about the Nectar mattress?

“It is amazing! It cradles and supports perfectly. I have a history of waking throughout the night with low back pain, hip pain, and/or arm numbness. This is not happening on the Nectar.” – Andrea O.

“I like the support and softness of the Nectar, but I wake up in the night hot from the memory foam.” – Tricia M.

“This mattress is very comfortable, I wake up with minimal or no lower back pain (first time in many years).” – Lynne J.
